Overview
Paddy Power asked us to create a stir at Euro 2012. We aimed to make Lucky Pants a major talking point during the tournament, with the ultimate goal of driving betting. We devised an idea that would see the Paddy Power brand name flashed (quite literally) to a global audience of football fans.
The Challenge
We thought Arsenal and Sunderland striker Nicklas Bendtner was a ‘big name’ player that could be persuaded to wear the Lucky Pants. Bendtner had always been a maverick figure in the Premiership, so to have him embrace the undies fitted the brand perfectly.
The Solution
Release The Pants! In the 80th minute it was confirmed these truly were lucky pants, as Nicklas Bendtner roared in at the far post to score. Our Great Dane wheeled off down the touch line and revealed the Paddy Power Lucky Pants to the global audience's amusement, but to UEFA’s angst.
